ARTIST BIO

Minkyung Sung is a London-based artist whose work explores the tension between idealised urban design and instinctive human behaviours within communal life. Taking inspiration from decorative features in Korean apartment complexes—such as patterned tiles, fountains, and communal gardens—her practice reflects on how constructed environments subtly choreograph our movements and perceptions, often creating a sense of harmony that is quietly at odds with lived experience.

Working across painting, sculpture, and kinetic installation, she reinterprets architectural motifs through layered textures and sculptural arrangements. Her recent works incorporate materials like concrete, ash, pine resin, and organic elements such as strawberries, flowers, and fruits. These materials evoke both the rapid pace of construction and the fragility of memory, capturing moments where human intervention and natural time intersect and unravel.
